COMMUNITY ADVISORY GROUP

Why do we need an Advisory Group?

An advisory group supports community involvement in complex, long-term projects by building knowledge over time and bringing together diverse perspectives. It helps ensure recommendations reflect understanding between decision-makers and the community, and creates meaningful opportunities for broader participation in shaping outcomes.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE ADVISORY GROUP?

The advisory group will serve as a sounding board and communications hub, reviewing draft materials, providing input, and sharing updates with their networks. Members are not expected to reach consensus on every issue; instead, they help ensure diverse perspectives are accurately reflected in the planning process. The group does not make decisions but provides recommendations and oversight as the plan is developed and integrated into the Comprehensive Planning process.

WHO WILL PARTICIPATE oN THE ADVISORY GROUP?

The advisory group will bring together representatives from a variety of stakeholder groups, ensuring balanced representation across diverse interests.  This approach is designed to promote fairness, encourage a variety of perspectives, and support recommendations that reflect the needs and priorities of the wider community.

Membership

We currently have about 16 people who have expressed interest in joining the advisory group meetings. We are asking for a larger commitment from the advisory group to learn at a deeper level and engage more often. The broader community will have the opportunity to provide input at each step in the process.
