The Stehekin Community Plan (Plan) will establish policy and strategy to guide land use, interagency partnerships, and public and private investment in Stehekin. The Plan will affirm the intent for Stehekin to remain a viable, year-round community with a core of permanent resident families and the necessary community support services. The Plan will acknowledge the importance of critical local services and infrastructure, such as the local school, post office, power utility, and daily ferry service, as well as the impact of the National park Service past, current and future policies and decisions on the long-term viability of the Stehekin community.
The Plan will revolve around the foundational assumptions articulated in the draft vision, treating Stehekin as a viable economic and social community, with families and lifestyles unique to the valley. Preserving these fundamental qualities is the basis upon which the plan will propose policy initiatives, economic strategy, zoning initiatives, and public investment. Community engagement is crucial to ensure the plan's proposals fit Stehekin and it's jurisdictional, environment, economic, and cultural context.
The Plan would supplement the County's existing comprehensive plan, augmenting existing policy with more detail tailored to guiding land use, public investment, and interagency coordination in and around Stehekin. The plan will also provide necessary guidance to the Chelan County PUD by clarifying the types and extent of development in the valley to make investment decisions based on anticipated demand. The plan will help address these needs, establishing a community vision and putting in place a policy basis to achieve it.
The following sections highlight key areas of interest and proposed topics for the community plan (Section 2 in the Draft Plan Outline). Each section represents a priority or focus identified through early discussions with the community.
We gathered input on the draft plan sections during the in-person meeting on October 22. We’re now compiling those comments and will share them with you soon in a more readable format.
